Melanson Settlement

Melanson Settlement National Historic Site of Canada

Where the grace of nature meets the passage of time

dsc_0170The centuries-old spirit of the Acadian people who worked the dyklands around the Annapolis Basin is as strong as the tides themselves. There is magic in the landscape around the national historic sites of Canada in Annapolis Royal.

Melanson Settlement
The soil is almost as rich as the secrets it holds at this important archaeological site. Before they were deported in1755, Acadian families farmed the dykelands along the Annapolis River. A short (193 metres) interpretive trail tells the story of the Acadian village that was once here.

Even now – more than 400 years after the French first stepped ashore here – the ground still pulses with mystery.
